Dutton Delivers on Drowning Prevention
Health Minister Peter Dutton is serious on drowning prevention and is teaming up with Laurie Lawrence’s Kids Alive – do the five program to combat the problem.
31 children under the age of 5, drowned in Australia between 2012 and 2013. This is a 48% increase on the previous year.
Minister Dutton’s support will enable the Kids Alive Program to deliver free water safety education materials including 4 books, children’s DVD and music CD to every early learning centre in Australia. The Australian Childcare Alliance will help coordinate this delivery.
Australia Post have also come on board to push the message and will deliver these resources free of charge right across Australia.
The educational materials focus on water safety messages for the pool, home, beach and farm setting.
Laurie said parents can also access these fun and entertaining educational resources for free from the Kids Alive website www.kidsalive.com.au.
Key water safety stakeholders including, Royal Life Saving, Surf Lifesaving, Swim Australia, AUSTSWIM, Farm Safe, Kidsafe and Play Group will also deliver these free resources via their networks.
