September 23 to 27 is a special week. It marks Kids Alive Swim Into Summer campaign where swim schools across Australia are offering free lessons to entice more children into life-saving swimming lessons.
We know that young children, especially 1-year-olds, are at the highest risk of drowning, so we want to encourage families to start gaining water safety skills as early as possible. Children can begin their water safety journey as early as 3 months.
Free Online Lessons for Families
Can’t make it to a swim school? No worries! Kids Alive is also offering five free online swim lessons that you can do at home. These lessons cover important water safety skills like breath control, submersion, and floating. They’re easy to follow and a great way for families to practice together. You can access the lessons HERE
Why It’s So Important
Last year, 323 people drowned in Australia, with 15 of those being children under 5. Most of these tragedies happened in the home, often in swimming pools or bathtubs. Learning to swim is one of the best ways to prevent drowning. Every child who learns to swim is a life potentially saved.
