Update on Kids Alive water safety resources
In 2009 Kids Alive launched the ‘Living with water’ DVD for new parents. The DVD which is still delivered to new parents today via the new mothers Bounty Bag has been distributed free of charge to more than 2 million Australia families.
The Federal Health Minister at the time Kate Ellis launched the initiative in Canberra and helped to introduce Laurie’s 5 month old granddaughter Evie to important water safety skills.
Six years on, the ‘Living with water’ DVD has been updated to a 2 pack DVD which includes important water safety information for parents and water safety education songs and animations specifically designed for kids.
The Kids Alive program has also expanded with the help of early childhood educators’ right across Australia, who present the Kids Alive messages via a water safety pack for early learners.
The Kids Alive pack includes 4 books, a music CD and DVD which looks at home, pool, beach and farm water safety education messages.
Thanks to the Australian Government and Australia Post, 82,500 packs have been delivered free of charge to schools, early learning centres, family day cares, playgrounds and other water safety bodies.
The preschool children from Bright Buttons Currumbin displayed their enthusiasm for the materials when they performed the Kids Alive song for former Health Minister Peter Dutton when he launched the new initiative.
