Kids Alive Do The Five Joins the Global Movement to Save Lives
This World Drowning Prevention Day, Kids Alive Do The Five is proud to stand with Royal Life Saving Australia and communities around the world to raise awareness and take simple steps that save lives. On 25 July, we unite to shine a light on drowning prevention and take action that can make a life-saving difference. In support of this global initiative, Kids Alive is going blue—dressing up, decorating, and getting creative with arts and crafts to help spread the message far and wide.

A Global Day of Action Backed by the United Nations
World Drowning Prevention Day was established in April 2021 following the adoption of the first-ever United Nations Resolution on Global Drowning Prevention. This landmark resolution calls for urgent, coordinated action to address the preventable tragedy of drowning.
Drowning claims more than 300,000 lives every year—and the vast majority of these are children and young people living in low- and middle-income countries. But this issue affects all nations. In Australia, hundreds of families are impacted each year by devastating drowning incidents—most of which are preventable.

Taking Action: How You Can Help Prevent Drowning
This year, Kids Alive Do The Five encourages everyone to go blue and take action. Whether you wear blue, decorate your classroom, or host a water safety activity, your efforts raise awareness—and help save lives. Here are simple, effective steps everyone can take:
Every small step matters. Together, we can create a culture of safety around water.
Kids Alive Do The Five: Leading Water Safety Education for Young Children
For over two decades, Kids Alive Do The Five, founded by Olympic coach Laurie Lawrence, has been on a mission to reduce childhood drowning. Through fun, accessible, and engaging resources—including music, animations, storybooks, and professional training—the program empowers families, early learning services, swim schools, and educators to prioritise water safety. The campaign’s five key messages remain as relevant as ever:
To celebrate World Drowning Prevention Day, Kids Alive is getting creative—dressing up in blue, creating blue-themed crafts, and hosting interactive swimming sessions to engage children in fun, memorable ways that reinforce key safety messages.
